Thats right, EA will increase the number of job cuts to 1,100 which equates to 11% of its workforce. The layoffs will be completed by March 2009 and also coming with that will be closing of many facilities, moreso than originally planned.

According to EA executives, the lay offs will be at all levels of employees from: managers, directors, VP’s and above. Also, they will be freezing raises and cut 30% of the companies SKUS in 2010. Reasons for the depature include: Visa issues with Sai when it came time for him to attend the WCG Grand Finals and what appears to be a lack of iniative on Lyc’s part to take his game to the next level of gameplay.

FoV wins ZOTAC #71

February 3rd, 2009

This time the Koreans completely dominated ZOTAC with all four semi-finalists bring from Korea. Check, FoV, MichaeL and ReMinD had to battle it out for the 100€ grand prize.

In the Grand Finals FoV battled it out with ReMinD. ReMinD, however, seemed to fear the recent Undead domination over Night Elf. In the first two games he opted to try to play as Orc instead. This pretty much ended in FoV’s domination.

In the first two maps, ReMinD showed that he can play the Orc race on a decent level, but too many mistakes in both games gave FoV two fairly easy wins.

In the third map ReMinD chose to go back to his much preferred Night Elves, however this truly seemed to be FoV’s day. With perfect timing, FoV attacked the Night Elf base with Ghouls and a Death Knight. FoV managed to kill all the Archers and the Demon Hunter. After this ReMinD finally regained some control, but FoV’s constant harrasment kept the game at his advantage. Shortly after, ReMinD decided to leave the game realizing that he had been flat out beaten by the well-played Undead army of FoV

Congratulations to FoV!

Resident 5 PS3 Demo Live

February 2nd, 2009

Hey everyone, I’m Shawn Baxter (Snow) from Capcom-Unity. Our amazing Resident Evil 5 Demo goes live today on PSN, so I thought I’d tease you a bit with some of the cool things to expect, whether you’re an old fan or new to the series. One of the first things I noticed is how good the game looks. It’s hard to get by the beauty RE5 has to offer. Better still, you get to play through two beautiful stages in the demo. Aside from the sweet graphics, there’s plenty more that the demo has to offer.

shot0080-00000

For those new to the series, the controls can seem a bit different than you may expect. The RE brand has always forced you to take your time, stop while shooting, and conserve your ammo. It really helps add a sense of tension a normal shooter can’t offer. But to help those who are new to the world of RE, we have new control types that ease things up a bit. My favorite is Type A, which is probably best if you’re a fan of the previous games, especially RE4. Next on my list is Type D, which I find myself loving more and more. Type D is best if you’re new to the game, and it offers something the others don’t… Strafing! May seem like a simple thing, but in a game as tense as RE5, it can really help in those situations where you have little time to react.

Alright, so I’m sure you’ll love the graphics and controls, but there’s something even better that the Resident Evil 5 demo has to offer: Co-op. Best part is, you can play co-op online over the PSN, or even split-screen for some couch co-op. Now, of course you can play single player, but nothing beats actually playing through with someone who can plan and strategize with you. For an RE game, the fact that I can play with a buddy adds a whole new level of fun. Nothing like getting into a swarm of Majini, and having your partner shoot a few in the face so you can uppercut or flip-kick one of them!

sheva0073-00000 for_gd0041_2-00000

Once you’ve played through the demo, you may want to try taking on the Executioner (huge axe-guy) with a buddy. The first time you play through the demo, run! He is extremely tough. But once you get comfortable with the game and controls, try and bring him down. I’ve tried, and he is extremely hard, but it is indeed possible to kill him, so don’t give up.

Oh, and a quick tip I’ve found is to aim for the heads on the Majini so they stagger back. Chest shots work, but one shot to the head means only one bullet expended, then push Square to pull off one of the crazy powerful melee attacks. If you get them to fall on the ground, run up to him and stomp ‘em with your boot or stab with the knife if you’re playing as Sheva!

February 2nd is just around the corner, so add me to your friends list, and I’ll catch you online for some co-op Majini butt-kickin’! PSN ID: Snow_Infernus

See you online!

Craig “Torbull” Levine Interviewed

February 2nd, 2009

The guys over at GotFrag have gotten an interview with Torbull, the owner of E-Sports Entertainment Association or ESEA. The interview questions range from ESEA’s league to what is going to happend with Team 3D.

You were noted as saying that the launch of the ESEA League would be “online league play DONE RIGHT!” Could you clarify what you meant by that, and what you thought the ESEA League would bring that wasn’t present in North American leagues? Do you think you have succeeded so far?

We’re bringing together a lot of our previously fragmented technologies to do some cool things that have never been done anywhere in the world. All matches in ESEA League feature easy web scheduling with game servers protected by our industry leading anti-cheat Client and automated HLTVs / SourceTVs, IRC bots, box scores, statistics, & demos from every match. We want to make the match process as easy as possible for the competitors and give a lot of exciting content and statistics to fans. We had a great response from all of our Season 1 teams, so we’re very excited for Season 2 to kick off on Sunday.

You can read the rest of the interview by clicking HERE.
