Spike Video Game Awards Down 26%

January 14th, 2009

During an economic climate where fear and doubt rules the day, it’s never a good thing to see something video game related releasing bad stats.  According to Variety, Spike’s Video Game Awards are not doing well:

It’s a question I myself almost forgot to ask, until the topic came up recently. So I checked with Variety’s ratings expert Rick Kissell, who provided me with the figures, via Nielsen: 680,000 people watched the Spike Video Game Awards on Dec. 14. That’s down 26% from the 2007 total and the second lowest since they started in 2004 (a bit higher than 2006’s 618,000 but barely more than half of 2004’s 1.23 million).

EG.Warden Interviewed

January 14th, 2009

Matt “Warden” Dickens, who recently joined the EG.USA CS 1.6 squad was interviewed by GotFrag’s Bobby “weenus” Hicks. The interview goes over the new EG lineup, their goals in 2009, and more.

The former coL lineup that had made the jump back to Counter-Strike 1.6 from Counter-Strike Source seems to be getting comfortable with the game again, how long do you think it will take some of the other returning players to warm up in 1.6 again, and do you see any possibility of the supposed rivalry that will develop between EG.usa and JMC?

EG.Warden:  We’re not really looking to form rivalries with words as opposed to forming rivalries based on placements. so only time will tell. I hope the other teams can adapt but to be honest I’m really just focusing on our game and not really paying attention to the other teams transition to 1.6.

SK interviews Allen

January 14th, 2009

SK has made an interview with Jimmy Allén, one of their young gun Counter-Strike players. Allen has been known to be a quiet and shy guy, but in this interview he opens up about his personal life. He discusses everything from the whole traveling circus that SK had for a month to a little about his girlfriend. Below is a little snippet of the interview.

Why do you spend your time at the computer during christmas too?

SK.allen: Haha I do not know, I like to be at the computer. I’m playing christmas radio music and playing other games besides CS with friends like DotA and stuff, it is just cosy I think.

Looking forward to this year, what personal goal of your own would you like to beat by this time next year?

SK.allen: I want to become #1 at G7 ranking again and stay there for the whole year and earning some more money would not be such a bad thing either. Will be a great year for CS 1.6 i think.

SoJu and ReMinD officially released from SK-Gaming

January 13th, 2009

SK-Gaming has now officially released ReMinD and SoJu. The reason, according to SK’s manager reis, was that since the competitions in WC3 are becoming more individual and because of this changes had to be made for a smaller team. ReMinD hasn’t really performed on a high individual level lately, but played really good versus WE in the WC3L grand final. SoJu on the other hand recently took first place recently at NiceGameTV league season 2. Both players will probably keep playing WC3. The duo was also called “the best 2on2 team in the world” by MYM]Losemann in an interview on mymym.com which is quite a lot said coming from a rival manager.

The remaining SK roster consists of:

June “Lyn” Park
Daniel “miou” Holthuis
Seo Woo “ReiGn” Kang
Dong Hwan “viOlet” Kim

Remind Leaves SK

January 12th, 2009
SK-Gaming is undergoing some changes in their WC3 lineup, just a few weeks ago at the NGL-ONE finals, SK’s wc3 manager reis talked about upcoming changes due to the game getting more individual so there isn’t really any need for a big expensive team anymore.

SK has not announced anything official, but MYM made a video interview with ReMinD, after the PGL finals, where he talks about his future and that he already left SK at new years and that a few players will officially leave at the end of the month. He also says that he will continue to play Warcraft 3 until Starcraft 2 comes out and then he will switch.

No Rock Band 3 in 2009

January 10th, 2009

Those of you Rock Band fans looking for the 3rd installment might be disappointed in 2009.  According to Kotaku:

Harmonix CEO Alex Rigopulos says that Rock Band may be taking the year off in 2009, with the developer focusing its efforts on the Beatles game it announced in October. Instead, expect more music.

Rigopulos said at the Billboard Digital Music Live keynote at CES that the Harmonix team will be directing its “creative energy” to the still-untitled Beatles video game project and expanding the catalog of tracks available for Rock Band and Rock Band 2. The Rock Band music library crossed the 500 song mark.
