Update:
Today’s round of the TSL3 saw CompLexity’s CrunCher take on Evil Genuses’ IdrA. After much anticipation and a little bit of smack talk, CrunCher was able to bring home the win. Both players displayed an astounding amount skill and strategic thinking, but ultimately CrunCher proved that he’s no “walk over.”
Game one was on Shakuras Plateau in cross prositions. CrunCher opened up with a Forge fast expand, mirroring IdrA’s own fast expansion. In a surprising strategic move, CrunCher when with an unorthodox fast tech to StarGate allowing him to get out one Void Ray and three Phoenix. Unfortunately for CrunCher IdrA scouted this build and mustered a strong Roach, Hydra, Corruptor army. After a long arms race, Idra initiated the first battle around the sixteen minute mark. Luckily, CunCher had a strong enough force to beat back IdrA’s aggression. Utilizing this momentum, CrunCher easily walked across the map forcing IdrA to leave the game without saying “gg.”
Game two was on the GSL map Terminus RE and, again, the players spawned in cross positions. CrunCher went with the same build he used in game one. IdrA must have expected this because, after getting three expansions, he teched to Hydralisks and researched Overlord drops. Abusing CrunCher’s immobile army of Stalkers, Collusus, and Void Rays, IdrA was able to drop the back of CrunCher’s main and his third expansion all while pushing the front door. CrunCher tried to hold on as long as he could, but each wave of drops was just too cost effective for IdrA and eventually forced a “gg.”
Game three was on the GSL map Crevasse and the players spawned at close positions. CrunCher utilized some pretty impressive mind-game play, by opening with a gateway but then transitioning to a expansion at the in-base natural. IdrA did the typical fast expansion focusing on a Zergling Roach unit composition. After IdrA scouted CrunCher’s second base by sacrificing an Overlord, CrunCher switched gears into a six Warpgate push. Thanks to some amazing Pylon placement and absolutely breathtaking Forcefields, CunCher was able to walk right over IdrA’s army forcing him to leave the game.
Huge congratulation to coL.CunCher, widely considered by the SC2 community to be the underdog in the match up. Be sure to tune into the rest of the TSL series and to cheer on CunCher when he plays in the round of sixteen.
