Quake Live Boot Camp

BY Andrew Miesner / June 19, 2010

Yesterday, the International Video Games Hall of Fame organization announced not only a mini-boot camp for Quake Live but a four-day festival event held concurrently with the Grand Induction Ceremonies for the International Video Game Hall of Fame & Museum, also known as The Big Bang 2010.

The Quake Live boot-camp and The Big Bang 2010 event will be held at Ottumwa, Iowa from August 5th-8th, 2010 at the Bridge View Center. The festival includes contests, concerts, dealer showrooms, panel discussions, guest celebrities, costume contests, historic museum displays, movies, and so much more.

Overview:

We will be setting up a local, LAN-based Quake Live server and gaming machines (sponsor to-be-announced soon) in a special area and our admins will establish games for practice.

This is not exactly a tournament event, but rather an opportunity for Semi-Pros and Pros to participate in the first-ever LAN for Quake Live prior to QuakeCon!  Depending on interest, we may host exhibition matches and explore other rule-sets to match your needs.

We have a 400-seat BYOC area as well, so if you want to bring your own equipment you’re welcome to do so.

Participants:

If you are a semi-pro/pro or otherwise ranked Quake/Quake Live competitor and want to participate, please e-mail us at [email protected] contact one of our admins in #ivghof (GameSurge).  Chances are that if you play competitively you know some of our team already.

Schedule:

The schedule for the Boot Camp will be determined closer to the event, but generally will be available throughout.  It’s likely that the area will be available 24-hours throughout the event.  Please check back for frequent updates!
