Stalife vs VT|Spades – IGN Pro League

Postgame

Tonight’s episode of the IGN Pro League featured compLexity’s Stalife taking on VT Gaming’s Spades in the lower bracket. This TvT match really highlighted to true power of the macro Terran style.

The first game was on Xel’naga Caverns. Stalife opened up with the standard one one one build getting out some early Marines, Siege Tanks, and a Banshee. Spades went with a one Rax fast expand, eventually fielding the standard Marine/Marauder/Tank unit composition. Stalife was the first get aggressive applying pressure to Spades’ natural. Spades managed to hold, but received significant damage to his economy. While the battle was going on, Stalife managed to get an expansion up and crank out more Tanks, Marines and a few Medivacs. One he massed up enough for a second push, Stalife hit Spades’ production faculties by sieging his Tanks on the low ground and elevator dropping his Marines in the main. In fact, Stalife used his patented “Stalife Drop” to do a little extra damage to Spades’ Tanks. Although he cleaned up the attack, Spades received a great deal of damage and was never able to fully recover from it. Again, while the attack was going on Stalife expanded again, this time to the gold. With a significant lead in both economy and production, Stalife was able to set up a contain and eventually whittle down Spades.

Game two was on Shakuras Plateau and saw Spade do the same fast expand build seen in the first game. Stalife also did the one one one again, but this time going to Cloaked Banshees to harass his opponent’s mineral line. Unfortunately for Stalife, Spades had already gotten Missile Turrets up and really limited the amount of damage the Banshees could deal. One the Banshees were forced to turn around, the game turned into a standard TvT with both players building tank lines cutting the map in half. For the first half of the game Spades had air dominance thanks to a few Vikings. Eventually Stalife managed to take air dominance and get a fifth expansion up. This extra expansion would prove critical to Stalife’s game because it allowed him to out macro Spades. Essentially, the game continued with both players throwing their armies at each other until Spades over extended. Stalife, because of his macro advantage, always was able to re populate his army. Spades, on the other hand, was quickly losing resources and was forced to GG when Stalife contained Spades’ main allowing him to plunders his only two mining bases.

Congratulations to Stalife for his outstanding play tonight. He proved that his TvT is of the highest caliber and that he is a force to be reckoned with.

Tonight, compLexity’s Stalife will be playing his Lower Bracket round two match up against VT|Spades. Last night, Stalife was able to take down FXOSheth 2-0.
