Kicking off Memorial Day Weekend, 23-Week Soldier Showdown Offers Recreational, Team Building Opportunity for Active Duty Service Members
FRISCO, Texas – 05/02/2022 – Complexity Gaming, a GameSquare Esports company and one of North America’s longest-standing esports organizations, today announced an expanded partnership with the U.S. Army Installation Management Command’s Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation (Army MWR) to host the largest installation of the duo’s Soldier Showdown tournament series to date. The competition reinforces the community-building power of gaming through a multi-tittle, cross-platform esports tournament for active duty U.S. Army soldiers.
“Our partnership with the U.S. Army continues to be one of the most rewarding,” said Justin Kenna, CEO, GameSquare Esports. “This year, we’re doubling down on our 3-year relationship and hosting the most ambitious edition of the Soldier Showdown yet to provide our servicemen and women a chance to strengthen their bonds with one another and enjoy friendly competition.”
This year’s tournament will feature a 23-week season kicking off on May 28. Each week, active duty military personnel will have an opportunity to go head-to-head across five of the most popular game titles – Halo Infinite, EA SPORTS Madden NFL 22, Call of Duty Warzone, Rocket League, and Apex Legends – to climb the ranks on the Global Leaderboard. Top-ranked players will win a variety of prizes, such as gift cards, Complexity merchandise, and more.
“Not only has gaming played a big role in strengthening morale in our homes, but it has also built a camaraderie amongst the Soldiers and their Squads,” said Staff Sgt. Cody Mackall, The Army’s Better Opportunities for Single Solider’s Representative. “Soldier Showdown has become a beloved activity in our barracks across the Army. It has provided a unique and meaningful way to provide a sense of connection between Solider’s and within our communities.”
Since 2019, Complexity and the U.S. Army have expanded their relationship year-over-year in an effort to foster communities and strengthen relationships through gaming. The ongoing partnership underscores the two organizations’ shared passion for teamwork and gaming.
Registration is now open exclusively to Active Duty Soldiers, Army National Guard, Army Reserve, and Active Duty Military stationed on Army Joint Bases at www.armymwr.com/esports. Weekly matchups will be streamed on Army Entertainment’s official Twitch channel.
