CrunCher vs EG.iNcontroL – NASL

Post Game

In tonight’s episode of the NASL compLexity’s CrunCher took on the face of the league, Evil Geniuses’ iNcontroL. In a thrilling best of three series, both players put on a show they can be proud of.

Game one was on Terminus RE and saw iNcontroL open with a defensive 4 Gate. CrunCher initially went with a 3 Gate poke into Stargate, but when his poke got caught, iNcontroL quickly went on the offensive. Once iNcontroL’s Pylon was up, it was no holds barred aggression. CrunCher was forced to cancel his Stargate, putting down a Twilight council only to cancel that in order to squeeze out a few more units to hold the line. After beating back iNcontroL’s aggression with absolutely stunning micro,  CrunCher went in for another poke. This time he was just seeing what iNcontroL had and then quickly  retreated. iNcontroL massed up another force and went for one last push. Thanks to CrunCher’s Force Field placement, he was able to buy enough time to get a Colussus out, which made quick work on iNcontroL’s army forcing the GG.

Game two was on Crossfire SE. CrunCher opened with an aggressive 4 Gate rush. iNcontroL went with another defensive 4 gate build. Thanks to some slick Force Field play on the ramp, iNcontroL managed to hold off the 4 gate rush. Rather than pushing out, iNcontroL sat back and teched to a Robo eventually getting out some Colossus. Realizing that he was way behind from the failed push, CrunCher took a major risk by expanding to a Gold base while getting a Stargate and pumping out Phoenix. iNcontroL massed an army of Blink Stalkers and Colossus and went in for the kill. Despite having the economic lead and an even army size, CrunCher just couldn’t hold iNcontroL’s pressure and tapped out.

The final game was held on Backwater Gulch and saw both players open with a 3 Gate build. CunCher faked like he was going to 4 Gate rush iNcontroL, when in reality he was quick teching to Colossus. Because he thought an attach was incoming, iNcontroL massed up units, meaning he was slightly behind in terms of tech. Despite these mind games, no real aggression occurred for some time. iNcontroL was able to sit back, get out a few Colossus and switch tech to Phoenix. CrunCher on the other hand stuck with Colossus and took a third base. Once iNcontroL showed his Phoenix, CunCher switched tech to Templar for Feedback. Unfortunately CrunCher was too late in switching tech path and just couldn’t keep his Colossus up under the constant fire from iNcontroL’s Phoenix and was forced to GG.

Both players put on a phenomenal show and should be extremely proud of their play. It’s important to note that the NASL is not an elimination tournament, so CunCher still has plenty of games ahead of him. Be sure to tune into the NASL this Saturday as coL.Stalife will be taking on Star Tale’s Ace.
