Top 10 in Japan

Many things made the 2024 championship in Japan the most memorable ALGS event yet, and @ComplexityApex's performance was one of them.

After boot camping in Korea, the squad arrived in Sapporo eager to experience the city and make their final preparations for battle. Our biggest obstacle was undoubtedly hometown heroes FNATIC, to whom we placed second in multiple matches. With a new good luck charm and playing our final Group Stage series on Day 2, we finally found a rhythm amassing a solid 55 points.

In a post-game interview with @laceysomerville, @MonsoonGG (in addition to bursting out in song) said of our strategy adjustments:

"We came in today with a new recipe of how to just set up a spot and how far we can push our utility."

With 112 total points, we avoided Elimination Round 1 and made our way into Winners Round. This lobby proved to be much more challenging, and after 8 games, we were forced to play yet another 8 in Elimination Round 2. Several hours later, however, we'd secured our spot in Match Point Finals with 45 points.

On the biggest day of the tournament, we came sprinting out of the gates with a thrilling Match 1 victory. Then, we finished 3rd place to remain only 9 points away from matchpoint (matchpoint format requires a team to hit 50 points and then win a match to become champions).

Although we weren't the first to hit matchpoint, we quickly joined those teams who did in their hunt for just one more win. Several games passed with no team able to end the tournament, resulting in nearly half the lobby becoming eligible by the time GoNext Esports ultimately took the trophy.

In the end, we finished 6th place, taking home $100,000 and some incredible memories, including an opening victory on Championship Sunday in front of an electric Sapporo crowd.
