Complexity Gaming Signs Exclusive Sponsorship Agreement with H-E-B

March 1st, 2023

Complexity Gaming, a GameSquare Company, Signs Exclusive Sponsorship Agreement with H-E-B, a Leading Texas-Based Multi-Format Retailer and Supermarket Chain

March 1, 2023, Toronto, Ontario – GameSquare (CSE: GSQ; OTCQB: GMSQF; FRA: 29Q1) (“GameSquare”, or the “Company”), is pleased to announce that Complexity Gaming has signed an exclusive sponsorship agreement with H-E-B, a leading Texas-based multi-format retailer. With a growing footprint of more than 420 stores throughout Texas and Mexico, and 117 years in business, H-E-B is committed to serving its local communities. Like Complexity, H-E-B values heart, drive, and innovation making it a perfect partnership. Complexity, in collaboration with Spark Foundry, a global media agency brand within Publicis Media, will promote these shared values to GameSquare’s content creator network, social channels, and various Twitch content streams, that have an aggregated following of more than 175 million.

“We are thrilled to partner with H-E-B, the largest privately held employer in the state of Texas with more than 145,000 employee partners, and $38 billion in annual sales,” said Justin Kenna, CEO of GameSquare. “Leading companies such as H-E-B, are increasingly turning to GameSquare’s platform to deliver outstanding outcomes and partnerships. The depth of our product offering and the creative approach that GameSquare’s vertically integrated platform can provide to brands seeking to connect with gaming and esports fans continues to grow and attract outstanding partners like H-E-B. Our commitment to our clients, and deep understanding of the gaming landscape, perfectly positions us to meet the needs of innovative and leading brands.”

Complexity Gaming was acquired by GameSquare in June of 2021. Since then, GameSquare has invested in Complexity’s platform by signing leading streamers and content creators including TimTheTatman, Cloakzy, and the Baka Bros, and has strived to continue to add female content creators which are now at parity with male creators. The organization has launched Complexity Stars, the world’s first gaming division for celebrities and professional athletes, and a female and non-binary Valorant team, GX3, that competes in the VCT Game Changers program. As a result of these investments, the aggregate following for Complexity has grown from approximately ten million to more than 105 million and continues to expand with the addition of new talent, teams, and Complexity Stars members. The rapid growth of the audience has provided scale and amplified brand awareness including a multi-year sponsorship between Complexity Gaming and Lenovo. The sponsorship with Lenovo made it the exclusive desktop and laptop PC provider and Complexity’s Frisco-based headquarters, named the Lenovo Legion Esports Center.

Complexity’s Future in Valorant

July 22nd, 2022

Dear Fans,

As many of you have heard, recently VALORANT Partnership Program applicants were notified if they would proceed to a further round or if their applications were rejected. Unfortunately, Complexity’s Gaming’s substantive and compelling application was not selected to proceed. We are saddened by this decision as our submission was robust, detailing our history of successes and innovation, as well as our vision for the future of Complexity within the new VALORANT ecosystem.

As a result of this process, we have made the difficult decision to partially exit VALORANT for the time being. While we will discontinue our efforts in the VALORANT Champions Tour via our men’s VALORANT team, we will continue our journey with Complexity.GX3 in VALORANT Game Changers and other competitions. We are grateful to have your ongoing support as we work with Complexity.GX3 to continue breaking down barriers and elevating the underserved women’s gaming community.

We are proud of the work we’ve done in VALORANT over the past two years and we are honored to have received your fandom. Our goal was not to create star-studded teams of known names, but instead to create opportunities for new talent to rise to the top. The process of seeing young talent like Valyn and Jonahp use this infrastructure to springboard to new heights has been deeply rewarding. We are confident that members of our talented current roster and others will utilize that same structure to propel themselves forward in the new VALORANT Partnership Program, even if Complexity will not be a part of it.

Thankfully, this goodbye is not necessarily permanent. This organization still has the utmost respect for VALORANT as a title and we are excited to watch the esports community continue to grow. Our hope is that in the future more opportunities will be opened to showcase the incredible depth of the North American talent pool in the highest level of competition. Until then, we’ll see you in VALORANT Game Changers with Complexity.GX3!

As always, we appreciate your support.

Complexity Welcomes Our Newest Accounting & Operations Interns

July 13th, 2022

Complexity’s Nicole Thurman, Controller, launches our very-own Accounting & Operations Internship Program. This week (July 13, 2022), two new talented individuals, Alerra Wheeler and Trevon Jenkins join the team in the first cohort of the internship program.

Nicole graduated from South Carolina State University in 2007, and has always strived to staying connected with her university. Through the internship program, she worked with SCSU, Terrance Tucker and Dr. Adams to pick two of their best candidates for this hands-on experience with our esports organization’s business operations.

Creating opportunities for students at my alma-mater has been something I’ve always wanted to do ever since I’ve been in a position to be able to do so. Historically Black Colleges & Universities sometimes don’t get as many opportunities like this, so this was my way of ‘opening the door’ for students as someone ‘opened the door’ for me.

Complexity has completely supported the creation of this internship program from start to finish, and creating this opportunity for students of color. This is something I don’t really see much of in the esports/gaming industry, and I’m super excited to see not only the program grow – but the students we bring on grow individually.

A huge focus of mine is to give the students an opportunity to meet with staff of all of our departments (partnerships, marketing, social, video, talent) so they get an idea of how that team works and what interests them the most.

Our mission statement here at Complexity is ‘putting people first’ and I want to make sure that my student mentees not only feel that way, but actively see that mission statement reinforced. Not only will they be able to get hands-on experience, they’ll also be able to form personal connections with our staff & departments and get advice from other talented individuals.

– Nicole Thurman, Controller

Alerra C. Wheeler is a sophomore Accounting major from Price George’s County, Maryland. She is involved in the National Association of Black Accountants, Honors College, Campus Activity Board, and Beta Alpha Psi Honor Organization.

I enjoy exploring new environments and traveling. I am most excited about learning new perspectives in the accounting field, and being able to experience this opportunity!

– ALERRA WHEELER, ACCOUNTING & BUSINESS INTERN

Trevon Jenkins is a senior Accounting major from Charleston, South Carolina. He is involved as a U.S. Army ROTC Cadet, and his hobbies include playing video games.

I am excited to meet new people at the office, hearing their backgrounds, and working for an esports company!

– TREVON JENKINS, ACCOUNTING & BUSINESS INTERN

This is just the start of Complexity’s Internship Program that actively seeks the next-generation of talented, diverse, and unique individuals. If you are interested in more information about the program, email [email protected].

June 8th, 2022

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of Title IX, ESPN and W. Studios, featured Complexity’s own all-female VALORANT team, GX3, in a Fifty/50 series special. In February of 2022, an ESPN film crew anchored by award-winning director Elizabeth Lo and award-winning producer Ceylan Carhoglu filmed our GX3 team bootcamping for the upcoming Game Changers event. The video was captured at the Lenovo Legion Esports Center here in Frisco, Texas, focusing on the team environment and the struggles of women in gaming.
