PG2: coL.cs vs Reliable

October 22nd, 2013

Tonight compLexity.cs is set to face off on de_dust2 for ESEA-Invite Season 15 Week 2:1. The team has a 1-1 record on the season so far after an opening match loss to Exertus eSports and following this past Sunday’s dominating win over Frost Gaming. Last night coL.cs took on Artyk Gaming last night in CEVO-Main action, winning 16 to 13. coL.cs is now turning up the heat in anticipation for next week’s E-Sports World Cup appearance. Groups for ESWC 2013 were announced today and compLexity finds themselves in Group D (alongside LGB eSports, ETERNiTY, and France’s 2nd qualified team.) With the stakes of coL.cs game play growing more and more with each passing day; it should be of no surprise that the team is working out some last minute kinks before hitting the road.

Prior to the match we caught up with Spencer “Hiko” Martin and he gave us this insight:

What do you know about the teams in the ESWC group you have been placed in? (Group D)

Spencer “Hiko” Martin: I know that LGB has showed promise recently, they took a few maps off some of the top teams and they should be good at ESWC. ETERNiTY I really haven’t heard much of, I don’t know much about the Libyan CS:GO scene so I don’t know what to expecty of them. Finally, the France #2 team could be any of the top french teams at this point, so I don’t really know who I’m expecting to be in our group yet.

What is your pick on a “group of death,” if any and why?

Spencer “Hiko” Martin: I think Group C is the closest thing to a group of death because it has 3 teams that I think COULD get out of the group stages. If VeryGames takes the France #2 spot, our group would be the group of death, but for now I’ll have to say Group C.

What are you expecting from RELiABLE GAMiNG tonight in terms of competition? What or who is their biggest threat?

Spencer “Hiko” Martin: I think RELiABLE GAMiNG is a good team that has a lot of potential. They know how to play and have good aim. I think we just have to focus on our game and make sure we don’t give them unnecessary picks and it should result well for us.

PG2: coL.cs vs Frost Gaming

October 20th, 2013

Postgame

Do you feel that the Molotov/incendiary should be buffed? (You pushed through that Molotov in banana and got the frag on the guy at car)

Jordan “n0thing” Gilbert: I haven’t quite studied the effects of damage per second or anything, so I think it’s as fair as a fire wielding bottle could be?  I ran through the flame as a calculated decision, I knew he had to reload and I had high HP.

Do you feel that as a team, given the steam rolling, you take anything away from these matches to apply later on?

Jordan “n0thing” Gilbert: Well it’s important to stay focused regardless of how well you’re doing, so I guess in a sense it helps remind us not to get complacent and good results are more likely.

Good games have been exchanged and coL.cs has come out on top over Frost Gaming with a final score of 16-2.  The team made quick work of Frost Gaming on de_inferno and with the second match of the season in the books compLexity improves to a 1-1 record. The team looks forward to meeting up with RELiABLE GAMiNG on de_dust2 this Tuesday at a time to be determined.

Pregame

The second match of ESEA Season 15 is set to kick off tonight versus Frost Gaming.  compLexity.cs is looking to bounce back from a loss to Exertus eSports.  In a close match that was plagued with server lag issues, coL.cs fell to Exertus with a final score of 16 to 14 on de_inferno.  Tonight the guys are taking on Frost Gaming led by long time gaming veteran of the Counter-Strike: Source community and former CGS player, Mohamad “mOE” Assad. The match is set to kick off tonight at 9PM EST with live coverage by ESEA.tv.

Prior to the beginning of the match, we caught up with Jordan “n0thing” Gilbert who answered the following questions we had:

Coming off of the loss to Exertus eSports, what is something that the team has decided to change in preparation going into tonight’s match up?

Jordan “n0thing” Gilbert: Without giving away too much, we basically don’t want to commit to as many unnecessary battles as we did in our Exertus match, and we’re going to try to tighten up our offense a bit and hopefully get the pistols.

What play style best describes the new Frost Gaming line up?

Jordan “n0thing” Gilbert: Very pug like. They like to move quickly with AWPers on either side of the strategy.

What is the biggest threat Frost Gaming has to offer and how is coL.cs prepared to counter it? Is there anything to be said about Joshua “steel” Nissan playing from the UK and the potential lag that you guys may face?

Jordan “n0thing” Gilbert: They can hit shots, and if they gain momentum they can be dangerous as any team.  The lag might play to their advantage, steel seems to somehow embrace it, heh :P.

compLexity Gaming’s 10th Anniversary Counter-Strike Tournament

October 16th, 2013

Today everyone at compLexity Gaming is thrilled to announce the celebration of our 10th Anniversary.  Ten years ago, Jason Lake set out to create a global eSports Syndicate that would “redefine the evolution of sports.”  Since that time we’ve been home to some of the very best competitive gamers in the world and we are very proud of our long list of accomplishments.

We’re pleased to release a video that celebrates many highlights of our decade run in gaming, and we’d like to sincerely thank and honor those many people who have contributed parts of their lives to the “compLexity Dream.”

In order to properly celebrate this special event, we have decided to return to our roots.  We’re proud to announce, in conjunction with Sound Blaster and Twitch.tv, our $10,000 10th Anniversary CS:GO Tournament, hosted by CEVO and casted by the legendary Vansilli.  The event will take place November 9-10, 2013.  You can find details and registration HERE.

“It’s been an incredible decade,” said Jason Lake, Founder and CEO of compLexity Gaming.  “Words are not sufficient to express the gratitude I have for those who have taken this journey with me.  Special thanks to the fans, our gamers and staff, and to Jason Bass for making compLexity a dream worth living.  Thanks to Sound Blaster for its loyal support and to Twitch and CEVO for making our anniversary tournament a reality.  I’m looking forward to some great Counter-Strike action.  Bring me the pistols!”

A sincere thank you to the thousands of fans who have supported our gaming family for the past 10 years.  The games have changed over time but your loyal support has not.  You have always been the backbone of The Syndicate.   Thank you.

PG2: coL.cs vs Exertus eSports

October 15th, 2013

Postgame

We were able to catch up with Sean “seang@res” Gares at the end of the match and this was the input he gave us:

[ 1st Half / 4th Round ] XTS pushes down and tries to pinch coL on the ramp but coL gets the early pick in middle and take out the rest with haste.  Was this the right play by Exertus? (Was their pinch not coordinated enough it seemed as though the mid guy made it there entirely too fast before the banana push) Why wouldn’t XTS grenade stack or play more passively in this situation?

Sean “seang@res” Gares:  On the 4th round, I think they were likely looking for an alt middle AWP pick.  Throughout the match they set a precedent of smoking deep middle to allow for it, so I kept everyone aware that they would likely get aggro soon.  Once we got the pick middle a second guy shot through the smoke middle, and we also happened to get a pick halls.  It was an easy decision to roll to A and 1v4 the lone defender.  The push probably could’ve worked better with a little more coordination on the other sides of the map.

[ 1st Half / 9th Round ] Hiko and Swag hawk down the 2 remaining XTS in construction who were saving their guns… is this standard practice or who/what determines to go for them as opposed to staying with the bomb is the better choice?

Sean “seang@res” Gares:  We decided to hunt the remaining players on round 9 in large part due to the situation within the match.  At this point we had enough money to lose a gun and still have a strong economy.  On the other hand, if we took the guns out of their hands and won the 10th round, their economy would’ve been in shambles.

[ 1st Half  / 14th Round ] While on full buy, you experienced what some suggest is DDoS, what happens behind the scenes during server pause/crash? Does this help or hurt a team more often than not?

Sean “seang@res” Gares:  When the score was 9 XTS to our 4, the server experienced severe lag.  At this point in the match we were on a full buy and in a 5v5 situation, so it was pretty detrimental.  We ended up just trying to individually run into sites (which failed everywhere).  One of us couldn’t move at all and was forced to save the gun and get no money.  It definitely hurt us, since we were broke on the final round, but I don’t want take away from Exertus’ play.

How important is it that a team controls the tempo of the match?

Sean “seang@res” Gares:  The tempo in a match is pretty important, but it is important to play at a safe speed.  If a team can play at a consistently high paced, safe speed, it is deadly.  By controlling choke points it forces the opposing team to use more resources on areas that aren’t the bombsites.

As the match concluded, compLexity.cs came out just shy of the victory over Exertus eSports with a final score of 16 to 14 on de_inferno. With the first match of the season in the books so are a few lessons learned by coL.cs. Those lessons come in the form of situations experienced as a team and operating more and more as a unit.  GG to Exterus eSports!  Catch compLexity.cs as they face off against Frost Gaming on Thursday for ESEA S15 Week 1:2 on de_inferno. The official starting time of this match will be confirmed closer to time! Thanks for reading the PG2 and look forward for more to come from @compLexityLive!

Pregame

Tonight compLexity.cs is back in action as they open up their ESEA season by taking on Exertus eSports on de_inferno. compLexity is looking to make their way back to the finals after falling to NiP in the Grand Finals last season, while Exertus is fresh out of ESEA-Main with a promotion this season. Led by old-school player Joshua ‘PineKone’ Springer, Exertus will be looking to prove that they belong in the league amongst some of the best teams in North America.

coL.cs has kicked it into high gear coming off of their 2nd place ESEA Season 14 LAN placing in preparation for the upcoming E-Sports World Cup in France and MSI Beat It Tournament in China. The team has spent countless hours bringing together and compiling all that they have studied in the short time away following ESEA Season 14 and the online portion of the MSI Beat It Qualifiers and are back for more glory.

We caught up with Sean “sgares” Gares who had this to say about tonights match up:

How much of an effect has using Valve’s version of the maps versus the _se versions had in compLexity’s planning and strategizing?

Sean “seang@res” Gares: Using Valve’s versions of the maps has really refreshed our team’s practices. We all feel motivated to find new ways to smoke/flash areas, and even defend chokepoints. I’m really interested to see how a few of the maps play in scrims, since we’ve only been able to play on a few thus far. For tonight’s match against Exertus e-Sports, we’re definitely eager to finally play a Valve map in a match setting. We’ve been scrimming against Exertus quite a bit, and they’ve vastly improved since our matchup in the MSI qualifier. This lineup is MUCH different so we cannot overlook them at all. If we want to win this match we’re going to have to make them play at our pace and make coordinated decisions. It’s important that we stick to what we’ve practiced and focus on our game.

What has the practice schedule been like for compLexity.cs coming into ESEA Season 15?

Sean “seang@res” Gares: Our practice schedule for Season 15 has been much different than it was in Season 14. This season we’ve really stuck to disciplined schedule and focused a lot of strategy/theory. Being able to see what truly worked at ESEA LAN was huge for us. We’re coming into this season with a slightly changed mentality and a heavy desire to evolve.

Here is a quick re-cap of the last match up between Exertus e-Sports and compLexity.cs in the MSI Beat It Qualifier (special thanks to ESEA)
