Painkiller Returns?

April 10th, 2009

PainkillerWhen Painkiller was released in 2004 people were let’s just say less than impressed with the old-school charms, and if you have forgotten about it, you would be forgiven. That would explain the arrival of a brand new Painkiller game.

Painkiller: Resurrection, is an all-new sequel that sees you once again trapped between heaven and hell, and again be condemned to fast-twitch first-person combat.

The game is built on a tweaked version of the original engine, and unlike the first title will feature co-op play. The game is due on PC at the end of the year, with the “possibility” of a 360 version to come after.

DSi Launch Numbers

April 10th, 2009

DSIiIt wasn’t the most hyped launch ever, but Nintendo’s DSi had good opening weekend, with 300,000 units moving in each the US and Europe. Not bad at all, considering that the first DS only sold 500,000 units in its first entire week in the US. With the promising opening weekend the DSi will hopefully rise over the mark of the DS in it’s first week.

WoW and Females

April 10th, 2009

Once again Nielsen has released a report and this time it is on the ages of females playing World of Warcraft. Nielsen stated that over 400,000 women are playing world of warcraft in the US, which means it is the most-played “core” game for that gender. Even more interesting, females 25 years or older make up the largest block of PC game players overall, and they account for 54.6% of all gameplay minutes in December of last year. Whoever said “Girls don’t just play WoW” was completely wrong as females are becoming one of it’s main demographic.

Neilsen also calculated some base stats for WoW, including the fact that 1.8 million unique people played the game, and the average time of gameplay per week was 744 minutes, just over 12 hours (slightly up from last year’s average). Additionally, of those who play World of Warcraft, their second most-played game was Solitaire, followed by Warcraft III.

Amazon Now Selling Xbox Live Arcade Games

April 8th, 2009

AmazonAmazon may still make most of its money by shipping physical items to your door, but it’s becoming clear that the retail giant knows the future of media is of the digital variety. Amazon announced it’s expanding its downloadable video game catalog to include Xbox Live Arcade games today.

The process seems alittle wierd at the moment — you buy a code from Amazon that you have to enter into your Xbox, and it’s not exactly easy to compare prices, since Amazon charges you real money instead of XBox Live Points.

Wii, PS3 and XBox360 Gaming Usage

April 8th, 2009

WiiPS3XBox360The Nielsen report just released their awaited “State of the Video Gamer” report, although there aren’t exactly any surprises in store for readers. The report was conducted in December of 2008 as Nielsen investigated use of the three major consoles — Nintendo Wii, XBox360 and also the PlayStation 3.

The report found that of those three, the owners of the Xbox 360 used their console the most — an average of 11.4 percent of the time for the duration of the poll, while the PS3 came up just short of the 360 at 10.6 percent. The original Xbox followed directly behind that with 10.2 percent, while Wii owners gamed a sad 6.8 percent of the time. Wii gamers were also far lower than PS2 owners.

The Wii also came in last place in total days used during the poll, with an average of 5 days while the PS3 and Xbox 360 users averaged 6.8 and 7.1.

MugNMouse adds TF2

April 7th, 2009

TF2MugNMouse has officially added Team Fortress 2 to their roster. After seeing all the rage from other teams who’s rosters include TF2, MugNMouse thought it was about time to do the same.

MugNMouse TF2 is composed of players which spent this past ESEA and CEVO season either ringing or pugging, after their teams had died. They decided to form a solid roster which will hopefully last longer than a few weeks.

Team leader, Joe “Nitrous” Vittorio, had this to say:

While only being together for the past few weeks, we’ve been playing unofficially together for the better part of a year. When we decided to make a team for the upcoming summer season. One of our main concerns was finding a sponsor that would be able to help us in the same way we could help them. After searching for a bit we came across MNM and couldn’t be happier.

The team will be competing ESEA and CEVO next season under the MugNMouse name.

MNM TF2 Roster:

Joe “Nitrous” Vittorio (Team Leader)
Tristan “fibby” Lewis
Nate “cringe” Samra
Lindsey “Movement” Anderson
Patrick “St.Patrick” Burton
Sri “ft” Jamalapur

mTw wins KODE5 Spain

April 6th, 2009

This event had quite a large turnout. There were 22 different teams who participated; it was broken into 4 groups. The top 2 from each bracket advanced to a double elimination tournament. DTS defeated mTw in a very surprising first match 16-14 throwing them into the loser’s bracket. This did not stop mTw though; they rolled through 3 different opponents: crackclan, ledpc, x6tence.

They worked their way all the way up to the Grand Finals to face the team that defeated them, DTS. Coming from the lower bracket, they needed to win two maps. The first map was de_dust2; mTw took it 16-13. The second map was de_nuke; mTw again won 16-9, and qualified for Moscow, Russia.
