April 2nd, 2009

TimeWarner Cable released more info on their new plan to switch from a flat fee rate to a metered system later this year. Starting this summer, the company will ask users to review their usage and pick a plan from 5 gigabytes to 100 gigabytes. If customers use more gigabytes than their plan allows, they’ll have to pay for overages.

Company spokesman Alex Dudley had this to say:

Customers will be given a three-month grace period to review their gigabyte usage before billing begins this fall under the new plan.

Customers can choose from the following five plans: 5 gigabytes for $29.99, 10 gigabytes for $39.99, 20 gigabytes for $49.99, 40 gigabytes for $54.90 or 100 gigabytes for a price yet to be determined. Dudley said all prices are estimates.

Happy Birthday Game Boy!

April 2nd, 2009

GameBoyIn April 1989, Nintendo released the Game Boy. Now in April 2009 the Game Boy system turns 20 years old. Wow how the time flies.

The Game boy has sold an estimated 120 million units in a 14 year production run. (that’s including sales of the Game Boy Color). The Game Boy gave way to the Game Boy Advance, which gave way to the Nintendo DS. Which isn’t as great because it’s not called the Game Boy DS.

The near indestructible Game Boy beat out the competitors such as Atari’s Lynx to Sega’s Game Gear, before finally being retired in 2003. The game boy brough us tetris and don’t forget pokemon!

We here at compLexityGaming wish the Game Boy a very special HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Two thirds of British men would rather play with themselves

April 2nd, 2009

PSControllerAccording to a study of 1,130 British men, 1 in 3 said that they would rather play video games than sleep with their partners. 72% of them also said they would rather spend a night playing a new release than having a evening with the missus.

32% of them said they would prefer to play video games giving reasons such as their, “partner being hard to please” to the prospect of being “not as much fun” as gaming.

Along with both those stats, 41% of them said that if they were given £50 they would spend it on a video game.

The research was done by a PlayStation3 site, www.PS3pricecompare.co.uk, a independent price comparison website that claims it can help find the cheapest new consoles and games.

April 2nd, 2009

mYmThe Meet Your Makers organization have decided to continue on, but will go on their seperate ways as long as they can find someone willing to take them in. Ronnie ‘TwAizZ’ Jelsbak recently did an interview for readmore.eu where he released the details of their decision.

readmore.eu: Since 19 March, when Frontspawn announced it would no longer continue with MYM, what has happened?

Ronnie ‘TwAizZ’ Jelsbak: Well we tried to look at the possibilities on how we could go on, and after some days, we found out that we need to get the team into a new organisation, so the players can get the support they need right away. We do not really have any option but to find a new organisation.

NY Times on eSports Recession

April 1st, 2009

NYTimesWith the economy going the way it is, futures in the eSports gaming industry are starting to dwindle. Infact the eSports industry has recently been in the New York Times where they have looked at several careers of gamers, their highs and now their lows.

The NY Times article is focused on what players are doing now after their highs in eSports such as taking jobs like us “normal” people. The NY Times also mentioned the fact that several key sponsors to big name teams have pulled their contracts and no longer support the teams.

Video games may be as popular as ever — people in more than 65 percent of American households play, according to the Entertainment Software Association — but the professional sport of gaming has nearly collapsed.

TF2: Sniper Update

April 1st, 2009

Update:

The next class pack will focus on the Sniper. It’s actually shaping up to be the largest TF2 update yet, with multiple new maps and a bunch of gameplay tweaks. In addition, we’ve got another update in the works that should be done before the Sniper, and that one will include some new content for all classes. The XBox 360 update is still being worked on. If you’re wondering what’s taking so long, since the content is “done” on the PC already, it’s mostly been around fitting it all onto the XBox. The original version of TF2 in the Orange Box was very close to the XBox’s memory limit, and all the additional TF2 content we’ve produced has pushed well beyond it. We’ve found a couple of nifty ways to get back a bunch of that memory, but it’s turned out to be a lot of work, and that’s what most of our time is being spent on. In the meantime, we’re going to get a code update out to address the server cheating that’s going on. – Greg Cherlin

Valve has recently released a new blog entry regarding the next class update for Team Fortress 2. The next class update will be the sniper. You can take a sneak peak look at the sniper update by checking out Valve’s official Team Fortress 2 blog here.

4Kings Changes

March 31st, 2009

The 4Kings organization revealed yesterday that they will not be taking their normal roster to the i-36 competition. Carlos “dumbazo” Garçia will not be able to attend due to “personal reasons”. His replacement will be Team CoolerMaster’s George “hudzG” Hoskins.

Team CoolerMaster’s will not be attending the competiion so it was an easy decision for 4Kings to pick up such a high calibre player and someone who has played with two of the current players on the 4Kings roster.

Jack “Callisto” Mason had the following to say about the switch:

Sadly, Carlos informed us a few days ago that he couldn’t make it to i-36 due to real life commitments. Obviously we’re gutted he couldn’t get there, but we will be taking big hudzG as a replacment for i-36. George is a great temporary replacement for Carlos, as I’m sure most would agree. He knows most of our strats anyway as we mix and play with him frequently so its all good in the hood. Roll on the tournament.

Roster for i-36:

James “Pez” Perrott
Henry “HenryG” Greer
Eamon “cauzed” Drea
Jack “Callisto” Mason
George “hudzG” Hoskins
