MoB adds L4D

January 18th, 2009

Valve’s latest shooter, Left 4 Dead, is slowly becoming a mainstream competitive game across many leagues, and MoB is proud to announce it’s 2009 line-up for the game.  You might recall some of Valve’s earlier successes such as Counter-Strike and Team Fortress 2, and this game is the latest addition.

MoB’s new roster:

Max “MoB Reiger” Reiger
Alisha “MoB GunnerGirl” Brooks
Alex “MoB Alex” Kelmenson
Hunter “MoB stza” Toth
Vincent “MoB Snake” Maltase
Daniel “MoB kuko” Still
Kris “MoB methodz” Maureira

Left 4 Dead is just breaking into the competitive realm.  With a 16 team tournament on CommunityL4D.com called the Infected Cup, and with CEVO and CAL looking into it, it is sure to be the next big online game.  MoB Gaming is looking to break into the early stages of the game in the top ranks right from the start.

Currently, MoB’s L4D team is 6-0 in TWL, and is registered for the Infected Cup.  The winners of the Infected Cup will be able to claim bragging rights until CEVO or CAL kicks in, so this is a big tournament to see who can start on the top, as sponsors are lining up to see teams play each other.

After the majority of the team met up in the Call of Duty series, they decided to team up yet again in Left 4 Dead.  MoB is excited to see where this team can go as they begin to work their way up the ranks in every L4D tournament, starting with the Infected Cup.  Be sure to look out for this new team throughout the next few months!

Circuit City closes its doors

January 18th, 2009

Recently announced, Circuit City — one of America’s largest electronic stores will be closing its doors for good and liquidating off their assets to pay off creditors.  A short time ago Circuit City filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and with hopes of coming away from that process a stronger and more vital company but failed to meet its expectations due to the declining economic situation here in the United States.

An estimated 34,000 employees will soon lose their jobs from nearly 600 retail stores nationwide. However, retail stores in Canada seem be fairing better as this shutdown process has not reached the stores across the border and operations will continue as normal.  Circuit City’s main headquarters resides in Richmond, Virginia, and has over 1,300 stores that span across the North American continent. It was founded by the Wards Company in 1949.

On a lighter note, the warranties on products purchased through their program: Circuit City Advantage Protection Plans are backed by a third party independent company and even with the liquidation sale going on customers can still use Circuit City gift cards.

When asked about how the Circuit City closing has effected this employee’s life, he had this to say:

When I first started at Circuit City I was hired as a normal sales associate. At first I worked in the Computers department and from there, the managers wanted to teach me more areas to work in to be knowledgeable all over the store. During my time working in computers and car audio, I learned no only about different products, but learned how to interact with everyone, and by everyone meaning many different types of people. After being given the opportunity to be promoted to become a firedog PC Technician, I gained valuable knowledge for the future. Circuit City had an atmosphere of family where I have met some of my best friends. The economy hasn’t be nice to us and it would’ve taken a miracle for us to survive. Many have made Circuit City a career and some are looking for a new direction to go. My heart goes out to all the associates that will be unemployed in the near future.

Xbox Taco Assailant

January 18th, 2009

We’ve all heard the horrible stories of young video gamers going off the deep end and hurting people with guns, knives and other forms of violence.  However, this story is a bit different.  This is the story of the TACO ASSAILANT.

Intrepid and indispensible local news resource WOFL-TV of Orlando reports that alleged Xbox Taco Assailant Zachary Moir is in the Volusia County Jail after a domestic disturbance on Wednesday night. Seems his moms went upstairs and demanded he stop playing that Sega or Atari or whatever you call it and come down and be a contributing member of the family, and he was all, “whatever, bitch,” and she was all “WHAT did you just call me,” and punched off the power to his console. Oh it’s on now!

“A few minutes later Dena says she was in the kitchen cleaning and cooking tacos for dinner when Zachary showed up. That’s when she says he slapped her arm and threw a taco in her face. “He went ahead and hit me with the taco and I got taco all over my shirt and kitchen. I’ve threatened to call police before. But anyway this time, I thought he went too far so I called police and he’s in jail now.”

On top of that, Mom won’t take jailhouse phone calls from her alleged Xbox taco assailant son. That’ll show your ass, tough guy! “She says she’s going to let him sit in his jail cell in Volusia County for a few days to teach him a lesson,” according to crusading truth avenger WOFL-TV.

China strengthens policy on game addicts

January 17th, 2009

As China’s growing problem with game addicts becomes more apparent, the Chinese government is finding new ways to decrease the problem of gamers becoming addicted to games.  The new system that has been recently implemented now forces gamers in China to register with their government issued identification numbers as a more prominent way of identifying who the gamer is and how old they are.

With any new system comes the flaws within, and in this case the new identification process is not exempted. Gamers can still play one game for three hours and then switch to another game. This will definitely make an overall impact of gamers being addicted to one specific game, but the enjoyment and “fix” they get will still be very noticeable.

Some of the concerned Chinese had this to say on the subject: “The reason why they are doing this is because so many minors are addicted to games.” “Kids were playing games all the time after class, or even skip classes. They addicted to the game.” Currently China has the highest population of users on the internet with a estimated 17 million game addicts to follow.

New coL Management Interviewed

January 16th, 2009

Over at GotFrag, there is an article about the new coL including an interview with the three managers. Jason Lake, Jason Bass, and Alex Conroy all answer the questions that everyone has been wanting answers for.

Let’s talk more specifically about your new 1.6 lineup. What circumstances lead to your ultimate decision of approaching JMC?

Jason Lake: To be honest, the decision to put this management team together was made before the JMC roster was finalized. Alex and I discussed each player along the way and we feel we’ve got a true winner. The combination of attitude, work ethic, selfless play and raw skill that this roster possesses will give our fans one hell of a fun ride in 2009. It will take them some time to get back into 1.6 form, but this organization is patient and relentless.

You should have known better, Mr. Lake

January 16th, 2009

The guys over at MYM have posted a very interesting article about our own Jason Lake and why what happened, happened. The story is all about how e-sports has turned into more than just a hobby, it is now a way to make money to most players. MYM has properly titled the article, “You should have known better, Mr Lake.”

The departure of compLexity’s players to Evil Geniuses is pure evidence that the times are changing and that, even in e-Sports, it is all just business.
