coL.HS in Pinnacle and HearthStats Champions League

February 24th, 2015

After less than stellar results over the weekend, compLexity Gaming’s Hearthstone team is looking to regroup and attempt to conquer the Inn once more. Both Dog and Alchemixt will be featured today, first looking to make it through a group stage.

For Dog the prestigious Pinnacle tournament is on the calendar. The Druid specialist has attempted to qualify for the tournament a number of times, until finally getting an invite for the third edition. In the stacked field of top-notch players he will have his work cut out for him, trying to get the two wins to make it into the playoff bracket. Savvy veterans like the German tandem Faramir and ek0p, as well as community favorite Forsen look to block his path in Group A.

Group B is equally impressive with yet another German duo of XiXo and Gaara, as well as TSM’s own MaSsan and Ukrainian superstar Kolento. To get far in this star-studded tournament is the goal of Dog, who is trying to get back on track to the splendid results he scored back in December. Since then, a break and some early departures from tournaments have plagued him, but now, in the dress rehearsal tournament for the big China trip, he is eager to show the world what he is made of.

Staying in the United States and trying to continue his roll from the various HearthStats tournaments last month is Alchemixt. compLexity’s newest member is set to march through yet another stage of the HearthStats tournament – the same way he did it at the end of January. Back then the aggressive player fought his way through three stages of the competition to wind up as one of 16 players in the Champion’s League.  Now the next goal has to be the Top 2 placement within the group, which would be an impressive feat to say the very least. Alchemixt got paired with ESL Legendary Series contender Darkwonyx and DreamHack Bucharest Champion Gaara in one group, being rounded out by newcomer and darkhorse Wheva. Only two people can make it into the playoffs, so at the very least two of his foes have to fall to compLexity’s hope.

To cheer on your compLexity Gaming darlings and channel your RNGesus for them, make sure to follow both broadcasts. The Pinnacle event will start at 5 PM CET / 11 AM EST over at twitch.tv/amazhs , while HearthStats Champion’s League kicks off at 7 PM CET / 1 PM EST with twitch.tv/hearthstats being the destination.

coL.HS in Heroes of Cards

February 21st, 2015

by Sören ‘Fantasy’ Vendsahm

compLexity Gaming’s Hearthstone team returns to action for one of the busiest stretches in team history so far. From this weekend on plenty of tournaments will feature the cardslingers from the red-black brand, on their quest to add the first championship to the young project in Blizzard’s virtual Inn.

While Pinnacle 3, Hearthstats Champions League, NEL and other events are already visible on the horizon, the focus this weekend is on the return of Heroes of Cards. For the new year the organizers of the tournament have a new approach to the tournament system, creating a league format with re-occuring stars playing for a berth in the LAN finals. compLexity Gaming is proud to be part of that new venture with two players fighting for cup victories and a spot in the offline event down the stretch.

For Dog it will be one of the last outings before boarding the plane and embarking on the tremendous journey that NEL in China is going to be. Him and the TempoStorm team will go east and try to conquer the Asian Inn against the toughest competitions in all of China. Until then, stiff competition awaits coL’s own, starting with Lifecoach waiting in the first round of Heroes of Cards Cup #1. Both have a bit of a history with a Dreamhack Winter 2014 duel for a berth in the playoff bracket of the stacked event in Sweden. Back then, Dog couldn’t overcome the former Poker professional from Germany – getting busted one win away from the Top 8. Lifecoach eventually went on and claimed a spot in the Final Four of that event, making it his best offline event yet. Now it’s time for the rematch with Dog poised to avenge his lost and move on in the tournament.

While Dog fights Lifecoach, the second team member of compLexity Gaming, SjoW, will have a massive task at hand. The draw of the first round gave the Swedish player one of the toughest opponents to face in a Hearthstone tournament, with Ukrainian superstar and Cloud 9 standout Kolento being the first foe. For SjoW it will be his return to the tournament scene after being absent for the first month of this year due to vacation. The next couple of weeks will be full on for the Swedish star, as he will climb back into the ring in several tournaments, eager to win his first Hearthstone event. Heroes of Cards presents the first opportunity for that – with a formidable and stacked tournament to show for.

Aside from those four mentioned names, many other stars from all over North America and Europe will attempt to become the ultimate hero of Blizzard’s virtual card game. British stars GreenSheep and Blackout, TempoStorm’s own Hyped and Nihilum’s legendary players Rdu and ThijsNL will join the clash. Even the booth is star-studded with popular streamer Kripp himself leading the charge. So join the stream and support the tournament and our players tonight. SjoW and Kolento will take center-stage on http://www.hitbox.tv/heroesofcards at 7:30 PM CET / 1:30 PM EST, while Lifecoach and Dog will duke it out one hour later. The broadcast will start at 6:30 PM CET / 12:30 PM EST with the ThijsNL and Gnimsh kicking off the 2015 season of Heroes of Cards.

coL.Dota Heats Up

February 16th, 2015

By Andrew ‘Riser’ Bronze

Despite a rocky road for coL.Dota in the last few months, with a multitude of roster changes and lackluster performances, the up-and-coming squad seems to have come into their own in the recent days. The team has rebounded after a slump of losses, going undefeated so far in Canada Cup 4 with the addition of standins Johan “Mynuts” Andersson, their former teammate from Heroes of Newerth, and Michael “ixmike88” Ghannam, formerly of Sneaky Nyx Assassins, Fire Dota and compLexity fame.

Speaking of ixmike88, tonight he will be facing off against his former teammates from FireDota, who have renamed themselves “Summoner’s Rift” with the recent additions of Jimmy “Demon” Ho, and Sébastien “7ckingMad” Debs. The match, starting on Feb. 16 at 6pm EST, will be the second in single elimination Major All Stars Dota 2 Tournament qualifier. coL and Fire have a rich history of excellent matches, with coL barely missing out on a trip to New York after falling to Fire, then Sneaky Nyx Assassins, in the finals of the ESL One America qualifier, which was immediately followed by another epic battle in Canada Cup Season 3, with coL once again losing to SNA 1-2 and eventually taking third place. Since then, multiple 1-2 losses in show matches and other events, while coL still holds a winning record in Bo1 matches.

In their most recent face-off, coL once again fell to their North American rivals, dropping a bo5 series 1-3 in the Bounty Hunter America Showdown #3. The revitalized boys in black and red will look to ride their recent success’s momentum to take down their rivals tonight, tune in for fantastic coL.Dota action on twitch.tv/BeyondtheSummit!

BLOG: Swindlemelonzz’s coL.Dota Update

February 12th, 2015

By Kyle ‘swindlemelonzz’ Freedman (Captain – coL.Dota)

Hey world,

So, not much has changed since the last blog. The team is still coming together, we’re not 100% sure what our roster will be, but there has been improvement and a couple developments. At the very least, Zak, Limmp, and myself will all be moving into a teamhouse in the northeast US in early March. At the moment we are playing with Mynuts and ixmike88 as our second support and offlaner, and depending on our results and feelings over the next couple weeks they may join us there as well. No matter what, compLexity will have five players in a house by the end of the upcoming month.

One of my core beliefs about DotA is that if you really want to succeed, gathering together in one location is the best way to do it. Most players don’t share this viewpoint, and I can understand the reasons why. In the pro scene it’s not uncommon to simply have teammates, not friends. Just because you play with someone for a year or two doesn’t necessarily mean you’d make the best roommates. Our team is a little unique because we’ve known each other for so long, and already spent much time together offline (I mean Zak’s my brother, and I’ve been playing with Limmp for nearly three years now). There’s just so many benefits to being in a house; you share the same schedule (a big issue for us at the moment, with Europeans and USE players), have less wasted time, spend far more time on replay review and strategy discussion, among other benefits.

There are many teams gearing up for a run at TI through the NA qualifiers, and while I can’t guarantee we’ll beat them all, I am a hundred percent certain we will outwork each one of them thoroughly. We’ll see what happens from here.

Dog Returns to ESL

January 31st, 2015

by Sören ‘Fantasy’ Vendsahm

This weekend ESL Legendary Series goes into a new round with a new approach. After all spots for the big Burbank LAN finals were wrapped up two weeks ago, the popular tournament went back to a King of the Hill format – this time with a twist. compLexity Gaming’s Alchemixt was the first player of the red and black brand to test it out, this week now it’s Dog’s turn to shine.

With ESL hauling in a special sponsor just for this edition, the prize structure got revamped and is set to give away $7,000 USD this Saturday. Seven players will try to climb the mountain and stay on top as long as they possibly can, all for the massive incentive of one grand USD per win.

On top of that, the required stipulation, or secret ingredient,of this week promises to make things exciting as well. Last week all four Brewmaster cards had to be in every deck, this time around the focus is on the Legendary cards of the Hearthstone universe. Seven Legendaries have to be in the decks, of varying mana cost. The players have to decide which particular Legendary will fill their 6 spot, have to chose between Dr. Boom or Baron Geddon and have to pick whether a 3 mana Legendary fits their deck or they might have to call upon the service of Deathwing.

So tune in to twitch.tv/esltv_hearthstone tonight at 10 PM CET / 4 PM EST when Frodan and Azumoqt guide you through Legendary Galore in the quest to find a King of the Hill.

Dog to China for NEL Winter

January 31st, 2015

by Sören ‘Fantasy’ Vendsahm

As eSports have become more and more popular, the dream of every player has been to travel the world and play in exotic locations. compLexity’s own David ‘Dog’ Caero will now have that opportunity, as he looks to add a trip to China to his resume.

The popular player and rising star in the tournament scene will travel far east at the end of February in order to compete in the upcoming Winter Season of NEL. Dog, who already has two LAN events in Europe under his belt, will bring the red and black to spice up the roster of TempoStorm. The team representing blue and white called for assistance from coL in order to fill their roster and have strong contenders across the board.

Right off the bat TempoStorm and compLexity’s all-star squad will have tough tasks at hand, being seeded in the same group with NEL Autumn winner Yolo Miracle and third place finisher Newbee. Alongside those returning powerhouses Big3 and Kapai-Cabbages round out the group in which the unlikely fusion will try to keep the dreams of the North American and European region alive.

“It’s like a dream come true.” said David ‘Dog’ Caero after hearing the news. “These last months with coL have opened up so many paths. Traveling to Germany, traveling to Sweden and now going to China. I am honored to have been picked and I hope I can infuse some compLexity power into the TempoStorm lines.”

For Dog it will be the opportunity of a lifetime, not only seeing a foreign and far away country and getting in touch with an ancient culture, but also in terms of refining his game. Ever since signing with compLexity, the learning curve of the young Texan boy has been leaning straight up. In every tournament, in every offline event he learned and picked up new tricks, netting him a Top 10 placement in the current GosuGamers ranking. Now he will get the chance to pick up the mysteries of the Asian region to become the ultimate Hearthstone player.

Together with the TempoStorm crew we will try and strive for a better outing for the Western scene than was last presented in the Autumn competition. Back then Liquid and Friends tested the Eastern waters, trying to make a splash. Unfortunately they took more of a dive and were unceremoniously relegated to the last place of the group. coL and T/S will try to spark new hope for the Western region against the toughest competition in all of Asia.

TempoStorm/compLexity Roster for the event:

  • Dog
  • Reynad
  • Gaara
  • Hyped

Happy Birthday MoonMeander!

January 28th, 2015

The compLexity Family would like to wish a very Happy Birthday to David “MoonMeander” Tan!

The streamer, the star, the Dota 2 player – MoonMeander is a man that fits several descriptions. The charismatic streamer made his career breakthrough alongside swindle at NASL Finals in 2011, and he is once again in prime position to break out. The homecoming of the former coL player is not only one with his old organization, but also with several old teammates. In HoN he fought side-by-side with Swindle, ZfreeK and Riser in different teams. Now the band has been rearranged some, but it is back together and looking to rock the world of DOTA 2.

Once again, we’d like to wish a very Happy Birthday to David “MoonMeander” Tan!

Changes to coL.Dota; MoonMeander Steps Down

January 23rd, 2015

Today compLexity Gaming is announcing a change to col.Dota as David ‘MoonMeander’ Tan steps down from the main roster. David has been an integral part of our Dota team since August, and we’re sad to see him stepping away from competition, but we’re excited to announce that he will remain part of the compLexity organization as he returns to a role as a full time entertainer.

“Hey guys, first of all I want to say there was no drama regarding this change to the team. After hours of conversing with the team, I realized that I wasn’t the right fit, both mentally and mechanically. I also need some time to rediscover what I truly want to do in life, thus I’ve decided to take my leave from the compLexity Dota team. I wish my former teammates the very best in Dota 2, and I know they’ll make it to TI5!”

– David ‘MoonMeander’ Tan

Moon has been a part of the compLexity family for nearly three years, and we’re grateful to be able to continue that partnership going forward. The compLexity Dota 2 squad will continue tryouts for the two open positions, looking to build the best squad for the upcoming Road to TI5. You can catch compLexity Dota 2 in action today in their match vs Vega Squadron at 1pm EST/1900 CEST.

Thanks for your continued support of our players, teams, and our organization.
