Brobocop’s Playhem Adventures

January 11th, 2012

Every so often it’s important to put a player in the spotlight for the things they do outside of major tournament and league play. For example coL Academy member Brobocop has been making quite a splash in the Playhem Daily tournaments. While these mini-tournaments may not have the same impact as an MLG or GSL, they still are an important way to get player and team names out in the public eye.

Starting chronologically, Brobocop had a strong finish in the North American Playhem tournament on Dec 29th. He fought his way into the RO16, losing out to coL.rsvp who went on to win the entire tournament. Looking to start off the New Year with a bang, Brobocop played in the North American Playhem tournament on Jan 1st. This time around he was able to fight his way into the RO4, losing to the Korean Terran TSL_Revival. In the end Brobocop ended up taking 4th place. In the European Playhem tournament on Tuesday Jan 3rd, Brobocop fought his way into the round of 8 eventually losing out to the German Protoss LoCo.

We at the compLexity academy are very proud of Brobocop’s results. With continued training we have no doubt that Brobocop will make an even bigger name for himself as well as the compLexity Academy. To see what I mean, tune into his live stream and see what he is truly capable of.

coL Academy vs Infinity Seven – ESEA

January 11th, 2012

Last night the compLexity Academy took on team Infinity Seven in round 15 of the ESEA StarCraft II Open League. Before the match, the Academy was sitting with a record of 7-7, right on the edge of making the playoffs.

Unfortunately the coL Academy lost to Infinity Seven. It was a close match with Brobocop and Goswser winning the first two games with a score of 2-0. Nineteen fell to Jecho 0-2, putting the pressure on Nocreativity. Nocreativity ended up winning 2-1 vs owmygroin, however one of the games was played on MLG Shattered Temple which isn’t in the ESEA map pool. Because of this mistake the match needed to be replayed and owmygroin ended up winning, forcing the ace match. In the end Brobocop ended up losing to Jecho in the tie-breaker.

It’s unfortunate that our boys didn’t make it to the playoffs, but don’t lose faith just yet. Our players are now more determined than ever to train hard and come back twice as strong next ESEA season. Also, we still have one game left versus CheckSix Gaming. While we may be out of playoff contention, pride is still on the line. Expect the Academy to give their final match of the season everything they have.

coL.Academy vs. LaGTT Gaming – ESEA

December 16th, 2011

Last night the compLexity Academy took on LaGTT Gaming in the ESEA Open StarCraft II League. With a score of 3-1 the coL Academy overcame their opponents, bringing their record to 7-5. This time it was Brobocop, Nineteen, Nocreativity and Goswser taking the field.

The results of tonight’s match were:
Brobocop vs. LaGTTbeezy 2-1
Nocreativity vs. LaGTTExoticA 2-1
 NineteenSC2 vs.  LaGTTcuhz 2-1
Goswser vs. LaGTTphiers 0-2

This win was very important for the coL Academy as it means that our boys are currently tied for 8th place, the last playoff spot. There are still two regular season matches before the playoffs begin, so in order to keep their spot the coL Academy is going to have to continue training as hard as ever. Unfortunately their last two opponents have yet to be announced.

Be sure to keep an eye out for updates as the Academy gears up to to take on another team next week, hopefully securing their playoff spot. With continued practice and dedication, there’s no doubt that our players can make the playoffs.

compLexity Academy ESEA Update

December 6th, 2011

Over the past few weeks the compLexity Academy has had it’s ups and downs in the ESEA Open StarCraft II League. After losing their first three games, the coL Academy managed to net their first win vs. Area51 Gaming. After that our boys went on to beat MachoMen, Art of eXecution Gaming, Impressive Play and Vector Gaming. The only loss the coL Academy has since beating Area51 Gaming is versus KEYD TEAM.

Currently sitting at 5-4-0 the compLexity Academy is still very much in the running to make the playoffs. With three games left, there’s a very good chance that the Academy will end up 8-4-0. It will be a rough road however. Our boys still need to take on Starcraft II Association, Relentless Heroes Gaming and LaGTT Gaming. If our players can stay focused, keep training and play smart like they have been there is a good shot they will take the next four games.

Keep on the look out for more updates on the compLexity Academy. Now that the season is winding down and the playoffs are coming up, each game is that much more important, especially considering we are hovering around 8-10 place.

Brobocop Takes 4th at SoCal eSports LAN

November 15th, 2011

This past weekend the compLexity Academy’s own Brobocop participated in the first SoCal eSports LAN Competition Circuit, a new monthly StarCraft II LAN tournament in Southern California. After taking down some tough competition, Brobocop managed to take an impressive 4th place.

Brobocop’s journey to 4th was hard fought as he had to go though a host of good players, more notably the high Masters Zerg Frosty and the Korean GrandMaster Terran ClashPanther. It was only when he ran into GosuSTX that Brobocop lost.

We at the compLexity Academy are very proud of Brobocop’s performance at the SoCal eSports LAN. Taking down players like Frosty and ClashPanther is no easy feat. With continued training, we have full faith that Brobocop will place top three when the next SoCal eSports LAN rolls around next month.

coL.Academy vs. Area51 Gaming – ESEA

November 10th, 2011

Tonight the compLexity Academy is proud to announce that it has earned it’s first win in the ESEA versus the team Area51 Gaming. After losing their first two matches of the season, things weren’t looking too good for our boys. Good thing the members of the Academy are troopers and, rather than getting upset or angry, they used the losses as motivation to train even harder. This training has obviously paid off considering we only dropped one map in tonight match.

The results of tonight’s match were:
 CAFallen vs. krikara 2-1
 Goswser vs. Fox_511 2-0
 NineteenSC2 vs. cDgFocus Forfeit win
 brobocop007 vs. FlatLine 2-0

Needless to say everyone at the compLexity Academy is extremely happy about this win. It is important, however, that we don’t let this get to our heads. There are still plenty of hard matches ahead us and our players know it. If they want to make it to the playoffs, the members of the Academy are going to have to keep their nose to the grindstone and train just as hard as ever, which is exactly what they will do.

Be sure to check back next Tuesday when coL.Academy will take on the team MachoMen.

coL.Academy Adds Alex “Shew” Raymond to the Roster

November 10th, 2011

Today the compLexity Academy is very proud to announce the latest addition to its roster; Alex “Shew” Raymond. A Strong Protoss player who previously played for the team Lazarus Gaming, Shew now hopes to rise to the top of the Academy so he can prove himself to a wider audience.

I was able to sit down with Shew today and ask him a few questions about his jump to the Academy.

Hey Shew it’s a pleasure to sit down and talk with you. For those of us who may not be familiar with you, please tell us about yourself?

I’m 18 years old from Irvine, California.  I have been playing Starcraft 2 since the second phase of the beta.  I’m currently attending Indiana University at Bloomington, where I haven’t yet declared a major.  But, I am part of “Mobile DJ” here which is a group that DJ’s for parties and bars in the local area.  I LOVE music!

I was on Lazarus Gaming, and I currently play for my school’s CSL team, which is ranked #1 in the nation.

What do you think about the compLexity Academy? What do you hope to achieve here? Will having an organized group to practice with give you that extra boost to get you to the “next level?” What do you think about your new teammates?

I think complexity academy is definitely underrated.  It gives players who have yet to break into the top tier of players a chance to prove themselves and become a top tier player.  Having the organized group practice and the competitive edge of the Academy will definitely give me a strong boost to improve my play.  The uniqueness about the Academy is that it isn’t just a team, you are also competing with your teammates for a spot on Complexity’s main roster and for trips and travel to LAN events. Goswser was a great deal of help for getting me into the academy, I owe him all the credit.  I know of a few of the  other players that I’ve seen on ladder or heard about in tournaments like Nineteen and Brobocop.  The compLexity Academy is extremely professional for it’s size and popularity which was a crucial factor in my decision to join.

Also, one of my main reasons for joining compLexity Academy was the compLexity and MVP merger.  Within a year I want to be living in a pro house in Korea and I think the compLexity Academy is a good way for me to achieve my dream.  Once I’m there I can fully submerge myself into the game and not have to worry about any outside factors.  And hopefully with this deep concentration and new living environment comes results. I’m even taking Korean right now in college as preparation!

Since you mentioned you’re attending college, how hard is it to juggle school work and SC2? How do you go about tackling each time commitment?

Juggling college and Starcraft is extremely difficult.  If I have a test or a big paper to work on then I will go to the library, sit down, and power it out for a few hours.  I’ve learned the true value of time management.  Also I’ve realized when I have the right mindset to play and the right mindset to do work.  If I try to play but in the back of my mind know that I need to study or do homework then my play will be bad, so I force myself to not play under bad circumstances and work.  Playing when your only thing to worry about is your play itself is so much better than worrying about a test, quiz, paper, anything else you have going on outside of the game.  My practice time is dedicated practice time and I make sure that I’m not disturbed by outside factors, same with my homework time.

Who are some of your favorite players? If you don’t have any favorite players, what are some styles you like to use/emulate?

There are certain aspects of top tier players that I really enjoy.  Liquid`Hero’s warp prism play is something I try to emulate in my games, along with HuK’s sick unit control.  The players I pay attention to the most would have to be all of EG’s because we have been friends for a good while now.  At some point every one of them have helped me whether it’s been in gameplay, mindset, or just a friend to talk to.  <3 you guys!!

I try to use builds that cater to my strong suits (multitasking and decision making).  I watch as many Protoss players as I can and try to take something from each of their games that I find unique and implement it into my own play.

Well, that about wraps it up for me. Are there any shoutouts or final words you’d like to say?

First I  gotta give a special shoutout to EG’s very own Machine.  He has been my main homeboy for quite a while and I wouldn’t be where I am today without him, thanks much homie <3.  There are too many people out there that have been great friends and colleagues to me in the Starcraft II world, you all know who you are!  The players on EG, Gretorp, Stevo, Russell, Flo, Ocram, and anyone I forget.  Whenever I need motivation to play I just look at all the friends and family I have from all over the world that share the same interest as me.  I love you all.

I’d also like to give a shoutout to Gosucoaching.com where I currently am a coach, and Sixpoolgaming.com.  Please check both sites out, we have big stuff coming out of SixPool Gaming soon!

We at the compLexity Academy are very proud to add Shew to our ranks. We really expect to see some great things from him, and you should too. Be sure to keep an eye out for Shew, as I’m sure that he’ll be taking the SC2 community by storm.

goswser Takes 2nd in CSN’s playSTARCRAFT Points Cup #3

November 9th, 2011

Last night in Cyber Sports Network’s playSTARCRAFT Points Cup #3 tournament both compLexity and the compLexity Academy had an outstanding showing. CatZ, TriMaster, rsvp, Ryze and Minigun from coL.StarCraft II were participating while goswser was there representing the coL.Academy.

Minigun was eliminated in the first round by imbaoracle and Ryze fell in the second round to a team-kill by rsvp. Team-kills were the theme of the night as CatZ had to take down TriMaster in third round and goswser eliminated rsvp in the semi-finals. Unfortunately CatZ was eliminated by TSLHeart in the semi-finals as well. Ultimately, goswser fell to TSLHeart in the finals, with CatZ and rsvp taking third and fourth place respectively.

Even though he didn’t win, we at the compLexity Academy are very proud of goswser. Just a few days ago he took second place in the Playhem $75 Daily and had an impressive 5-0 run in Thundertoss’s Top200 King of the Hill. With this latest result added to his resume, there’s no denying that goswser has really stepped his game up.

Despite goswser’s recent success, the compLexity Academy has been having a rough time in the ESEA StarCraft II league. Last night the Academy lost it’s third game in a row, this time to the team Nightmares. The members of the Academy are aware of why they lost and are hard at work straightening out any kinks in their game. With a renewed focus on how to improve their play, the Academy looks to get it’s first win on Friday when they take on Area51 Gaming.

Goswser Takes 2nd in the Playhem $75 Daily

November 5th, 2011

Last night in the Playhem $75 Daily coL.Academy member Goswser made quite a big splash, taking second place in tournament. As if getting second place wasn’t enough, Goswser had to take down the American Terran RuFF, the Grandmaster Protoss PswBoSs and top Korean player coLMVPTAiLS. Ultimately Goswser fell to the European Zerg player PeGaSuS in the finals, earning him second place and $20.

Once that Playhem $75 Daily was over, Goswser participated in Thundertoss’s Top200 King of the Hill where he went 5-0 taking down another top Korean player, FnaticMSI.Rain. For that stellar run Goswser earned another $20.

Defeating both coLMVPTAiLS and FnaticMSI.Rain in one night shows just how much potential Goswser and the rest of the coL Academy have. With continued training and hard work there’s no question that Goswser and the other members of the coL Academy can reach the highest levels of success. We at the compLexiy Academy want to congratulate Goswser for such an amazing run.

coL.Academy vs. vVv Gaming – ESEA

November 4th, 2011

Last night the compLexity Academy had their second ESEA match and, despite their best efforts, things just didn’t work out as planned. It was a rough match against vVv Gaming with a final score of 0-4.

The match-ups were:

 Goswser vs Titan 0-2
 Gensulitor vs Ruff 0-2
 Nineteen vs  Hasuu 1-2
 Brobocop vs Rocker 1-2

While we’re not in the business of making excuses here in the compLexity Academy, it should be said that Goswser and Gensulitor played mirror matches which happen to be their least favorite. Keeping that in mind, our boys now have a clear idea of what they need to work on. A loss like this is just the kind of thing to help motivate the members of the Academy to practice even harder. With a new focus on the specific aspects of their play that need working on, the compLexity Academy is looking to come out refreshed and renewed on Tuesday night when they take on team Nightmares.
